First it was Bear Stearns for $30 billion – then AIG got $80 billion. Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac got $200 billion. Next came $700 billion for Wall Street fat cats, banks or troubled mortgages or – what is TARP being spent on today? Next it was AIG back to the well for another $37.8 billion (after their lavish $400,000+ corporate retreat).
Then the Big 3 automakers flew in on their private jets wanting $25 billion. When each company was asking individually in the hearing how much they needed, the numbers already added up to over $25 billion! When they came back, they drove to DC but asked for another $9 billion - for a total of $34 billion. A $9 billion increase in two weeks? The Senate actually stepped up to stop that one ... but the Little Two (GM and Chrysler) ultimately found TARP as a way to get our dollars. NOW they want another 21+ billion ... and another 6 billion from other governments!
And then there's the Citigroup bailout... or bailouts. The $25 billion they received wasn’t quite enough, so the government stepped up with another $247.5 billion dollars. The housing industry and state/city municipalities are in line behind them, with other industries waiting in the wings.
There was even talk of bailing out Bernie Madoff's investors. I was able to share your opinions on this on FOX business recently. The video of that segment can be found on our "In the News" section.
Recently, our government spent $787 billion of your money on a stimulus package. It is the most expensive spending bill in the history of our nation -- and we moved so quickly to sign it that most in Congress did not even get a chance to read this 1000+ page nightmare. Historically, stimulus packages have been ineffective in pulling us out of recession or depression ... but we chose to pursue this route anyway. By the way, the TRUE cost of the package is over 1.2 trillion if you include the costs of financing it. There are now rumors of a second stimulus package to follow. Nice!
So far, your government has given away over two trillion dollars of YOUR money – over $30,000 per tax-paying US household!
